Web Accessibility Specialist / Senior QA

About the role:
We are looking for a Senior Accessibility Specialist who will play a critical role in ensuring digital products are accessible and inclusive for all users, including those with disabilities.
The role involves conducting in-depth testing and analysis, identifying and resolving complex accessibility issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to promote best practices in inclusive design.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in accessibility compliance standards such as WCAG 2.1 and hands-on experience with assistive technologies like NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accessibility Testing:
- Execute comprehensive accessibility testing strategies to ensure products comply with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1, ADA, Section 508).
- Perform manual and automated accessibility audits across platforms (web, iOS, Android, desktop).
- Evaluate user experiences using assistive technologies, including screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard navigation, and other tools.
- Issue Resolution:
- Identify and resolve complex accessibility defects, providing actionable feedback and solutions to development teams.
- Collaborate with engineers to integrate accessible code and ensure robust user experiences for individuals with disabilities.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Document accessibility findings, audits, and metrics to track compliance and improvement areas.
- Prepare detailed accessibility reports and share recommendations with stakeholders.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work with designers, developers, and QA teams to incorporate accessibility best practices throughout the product lifecycle.
- Review product specifications, wireframes, and documentation to assess accessibility impact and make recommendations for improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 Guidelines, Section 508, and other accessibility compliance standards.
- Proficiency with assistive technologies, including screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
- Experience with manual and automated accessibility testing tools (e.g., axe, Lighthouse, WAVE).
- Familiarity with ARIA roles and accessibility best practices in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Hands-on experience with mobile accessibility APIs (iOS and Android).
- Ability to communicate complex accessibility issues and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS).
- Experience working with native mobile development frameworks (e.g., Swift/Objective-C, Kotlin/Java).
- Familiarity with accessibility considerations for desktop applications (Windows/macOS).
- Experience in a leadership role or mentoring team members on accessibility practices.
