Job Description
The Senior Backend/Integration Engineer is responsible for taking ownership and further developing an existing integration solution built on Microsoft Azure. This role requires a hands-on backend engineering expert with solid experience in Azure-based integrations, system design, and production support. The engineer will join an ongoing project to ensure continuity and improvements in a business-critical integration setup.
Role and Responsibilities
- Take over and enhance an existing integration solution primarily based on Azure Logic Apps and Azure Functions;
- Design and develop integration solutions using Azure Integration Services (Logic Apps, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, API Management etc.).
- Participate in knowledge transfer sessions with the current engineer to ensure a smooth handover;
- Design, build, maintain, and optimize backend integration flows and services to improve reliability, scalability, monitoring, and maintainability;
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions;
- Troubleshoot incidents, resolve issues, and support stable day-to-day operations of the integration solution;
- Contribute to architectural decisions and recommend best practices for Azure integration services;
- Document the solution comprehensively and help establish a sustainable long-term setup.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Monitor and troubleshoot integration issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Optimize integration processes for performance and scalability.
- Document integration solutions and provide training to end-users and team members.
- Stay updated with the latest Azure technologies and best practices.
This profile typically represents someone who:
- Brings transferable knowledge from traditional/legacy iPaaS or ETL tools (MuleSoft flows → Logic Apps mappings, DataWeave transformations → Functions/Liquid, etc.);
- Understands migration paths (e.g., MuleSoft → Azure Logic Apps + API Management + Functions);
- Is comfortable building hybrid, event-driven, and API-led integrations in a Microsoft-centric/cloud-native environment.
The ideal candidate is a senior-level consultant who can quickly join the project, absorb the existing context, and create continuity in an integration setup currently dependent on a departing engineer. The candidate is practical, hands-on, proactive, and confident working in Azure-heavy environments with real ownership from day one. Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with client stakeholders are essential.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience with C# / .NET;
- Solid hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure;
- Proven experience with Azure Functions and Azure Logic Apps;
- Experience building and maintaining system integrations, APIs, and backend services;
- Good understanding of event-driven and serverless architectures;
- Experience with REST APIs, asynchronous processing, and integration patterns;
- Ability to work independently in an existing environment with limited ramp-up time;
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with client stakeholders;
- Comfortable taking ownership of a business-critical solution.
- Most likely have prior experience with other major integration platforms, such as MuleSoft (MuleSoft/Anypoint), Informatica, Dell Boomi, Workato, or AWS Glue;
- But in recent years have increasingly shifted toward (and gained deeper hands-on expertise in) the Azure integration stack.
Additional Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience with other Azure integration services and tooling;
- 3–5+ years in one or more of the "legacy" platforms (MuleSoft being especially common in transitions to Azure).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation in Azure;
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and performance optimization in cloud environments;
- Experience with enterprise integration landscapes or business-critical workflows;
- Previous experience in energy, utility, or IoT-related domains.
