Summary
We are exploring the possibility of engaging a bilingual UX Research Moderator based in South Africa to support an upcoming user/market research project targeting niche, non-English-speaking audiences.
The role will involve moderating remote research sessions in local languages, assisting with translation and localization of research materials, and delivering translated outputs. This is a short-term contract engagement estimated at approximately 50 hours of work.
Responsibilities
- Moderate 10-12 remote user research sessions (approx. 45 minutes each) with participants speaking local South African languages;
- Facilitate discussions in participants’ native languages while ensuring research objectives are met;
- Translate and localize research scripts from English into relevant local languages (Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, Setswana);
- Provide real-time or post-session translation support as needed;
- Prepare and deliver translated transcripts or summaries of research sessions;
- Collaborate with the research team to ensure cultural and linguistic nuances are accurately captured.
Requirements
- Proven experience in UX research moderation or qualitative user research;
- Fluency in English and at least one of the following: Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, or Setswana;
- Strong translation and localization skills (English ↔ local languages);
- Experience conducting remote user interviews or usability testing sessions;
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills;
- Strong understanding of cultural context within South Africa;
- Ability to work independently on a contract basis.
