How statistics are calculated

We count how many offers each candidate received and for what salary. For example, if a Mechanical Engineering with a salary of $4,500 received 10 offers, then we would count him 10 times. If there were no offers, then he would not get into the statistics either.

The graph column is the total number of offers. This is not the number of vacancies, but an indicator of the level of demand. The more offers there are, the more companies try to hire such a specialist. 5k+ includes candidates with salaries >= $5,000 and < $5,500.

Median Salary Expectation – the weighted average of the market offer in the selected specialization, that is, the most frequent job offers for the selected specialization received by candidates. We do not count accepted or rejected offers.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most versatile fields, focusing on the study and practical application of motion in objects and systems. This discipline touches nearly every aspect of modern life, including the intricate mechanisms of the human body. The central tasks of a mechanical engineer encompass a comprehensive design and production process:

  1. Concept to Market: Engineers take a product idea through to its commercialization, assessing environmental conditions and physical forces the product will face
  2. Design and Functionality: This involves engineering products not only for functionality and durability but also for aesthetic appeal
  3. Manufacturing Optimization: Selecting manufacturing methods that enhance performance and ensure the product operates without failure.

Mechanical engineers are crucial across multiple industries:

  • Key Industries: These include automotive, aerospace, biotechnology, electronics, and more.
  • Specialized Fields: They play significant roles in microelectromechanical systems, energy conversion, robotics, automation, and manufacturing.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) lists 36 technical divisions within the field, showcasing its breadth. These divisions range from advanced energy systems to aerospace engineering and from solid-waste management to textile engineering.

A mechanical engineering education equips students with a variety of valuable skills:

  • Creative Problem-Solving: Ability to design innovative products and systems.
  • Analytical Tools: Skills to achieve precise design objectives.
  • Constraint Management: Capacity to overcome design and production challenges.
  • Team Collaboration: Essential for designing, marketing, and producing systems effectively.

These skills prepare graduates for engineering roles and diverse career paths in fields such as medicine, law, consulting, management, banking, and finance. The broad applicability of these skills highlights the foundational and versatile nature of the mechanical engineering discipline, making it a critical component of modern technological advancements and infrastructure development.
